“Fucking Imps,” she grumbled. Falcon slammed the door once the Imp had seated itself on her couch. Fuck. She might just have to burn the damn thing now. He was getting his filthy little claws all over it. Spinning, she grabbed onto Deval’s hand and drug him into the kitchen.

She should have expected a summoning from Hades. The God was always in a rush to see how things were going. To hear praise at his plan coming together.

“You have pretty taste, Mare Falcon. It is like stroking the softened skin of a demon dog’s hide,” the Imp shouted.

Falcon rolled her eyes and ignored the comment. She pushed Deval down into a seat at her small table. She turned away and was quickly turned back. He yanked her down onto his lap and stroked a hand down her back.

“I don’t know what that thing is, but don’t let him get to you.”

He stroked a soothing hand up and wrapped his hand around the back of her neck. Tension that had been strumming through her veins, slowly disappeared. She cracked her neck, tilting it from side to side. “You’re right. I’m better than that foul thing, and I knew we would be called for by Hades. I had hoped he would give us at least a day before that happened.”

Deval hummed, but didn’t say anything. With light pressure, he pulled her closer until he was near enough to kiss her. She gasped when their lips met, surprised by the move. She’d thought the kiss the night before had been a test. One to see if they were compatible and to see her reaction. To have him want another—well, it made her heart turn over.

The kiss only lasted a couple seconds and, before she was ready, he was pulling away.

A grin curled the edge of his delectable mouth. His eyes twinkled with pleasure. “Good morning,” he said, and let go of her. “Now, about that food.”

Falcon couldn’t stop the short bark of laughter that left her. Standing, she went to the cupboard to search around.

Knowing she would be bringing him back, she had taken the time to stock up on food she’d seen other humans eat. Sugary cereals and sweet pastries. She’d arranged for what were considered common human items such as milk and orange juice. Bread and butter. Jellies and something called peanut butter. Why there would need to be two different types of butter, she didn’t know. They would get more of what he liked once he was settled in more.

Her diet consisted of the blood of the damned and burnt angry souls. Along with a good medium rare steak—human or otherwise.

“I have muffins and orange juice or milk, if you’d like.”

“A muffin would be great, and I’ll have orange juice. You wouldn’t happen to have coffee, would you?”

Falcon brought two cellophane-wrapped muffins to him. “Not tea like your sister?”

Deval shook his head. “I need all of the caffeine I can get.”

“We will have to stop and get some. I believe I have seen a café that serves it here.
